Learn more Darts may seem daunting if you are new to sewing, but they are actually quite easy to sew. You will need some basic sewing knowledge , such as how to read sewing patterns and how to use them as well.

Then, sewing the dart simply requires finding it on the pattern, tracing it onto your fabric, pinning the fabric in place, and sewing to secure it.

Learn this process so you will be more confident the next time you encounter darts in one of your sewing patterns. Please help us continue to provide you with our trusted how-to guides and videos for free by whitelisting wikiHow on your ad blocker.

Part 1 of Line up your pattern paper. If your pattern paper is not already lined up on the fabric, then do this now. Make sure that the pattern paper is lined up over the wrong side of your fabric.

You may also want of pin the edges of the pattern paper to keep it in place. If you have not already cut out your fabric using the pattern, then do that now.

Locate the dart on your pattern piece. Darts are usually indicated on pattern paper pieces as long triangles. The wide end of the triangle is usually lined up with the edge of your pattern piece.

Sometimes these triangles will also have a slight curve to them. These are called double-pointed darts. Trace the dart onto the wrong side of your fabric.

The dart will need to be on the side of the fabric that will not be visible, which is called the wrong side. Use a piece of chalk to trace the dart onto the fabric where it is indicated on your pattern.

However, double-pointed darts will often be inside of the edges. Trace the dart lines wherever they appear on your fabric.

Snip the fabric at the edges. If the wide end of the dart is on the edge of your fabric, then you may find it helpful to snip the edges.

This can make it easier to line up the lines you have traced on your fabric. A steady action is necessary for success in front of the dart board, so practice throwing while staying very conscious about your arm.

Try and keep everything still except the throwing arm. Something that is hotly debated amongst darts players all the over the world is when to release the dart in your throw.

Some people throw early in their action, while others leave it until the very last second. So when do you do it?

Well, the answer is simple—you find the method that suits you. Work it out in practice by tinkering with the time you release the dart. Notice at which point in the action it is most comfortable for you to release the dart, and, as with other aspects of your throwing method, it will become second nature with practice.

When darts players refer to "snapping the wrist," they mean crisply releasing the dart. You may see some people simply letting the dart float out of their hand.

This is without a doubt the wrong way to do it. One of the most important tips in successful dart playing is to throw with some force.

A nice smooth, clean throw coupled with snapping your wrist like a whip when you release will combine to make a superb throwing action.

Always follow through that throw; never let it finish before your arm has completed its job. Great players in any sport that involves a throwing arm do the same, as in football or basketball.

A good rule to follow is that your fingers should be pointing to the floor when your action is complete; if they're pointing upwards then you aren't following through correctly.

Again, there are many things you can do to ensure a good throwing action.
